My Big Lie - My Career As A PROFESSIONAL Thief.
When I was about 10 years old baseball cards took a tremendous increase in price from $1-2 a pack to some packs selling for $9.99 retail. They featured high gloss, thicker cardboard, and some of them even included minted bronze coins featuring our favorite players. My parents were far from rich and I could not convince them to buy these cards.
As a young kid I didn't want these things I needed these things and I came up with a plan to get them at any cost. My plan wasn't bad at all and it was actually pretty decent on paper. The store was Quik Trip and they had the premium cards I wanted so badly to have. The $5.99 and up packs. One brand was called flair and I forgot what the ones with the coins were called, but those were $9.99 a pack and I wanted those too.
My sister took me to the store for a drink and I excuted my plan. I walked into the store and grabbed about 20 packs of cards total and went to the place to make a soda I took about 10 packs and dropped them into the bottom of the cup and filled with ice and green gatorade. The sodas cost .89 which is still a bargain. I then went for the final piece to complete my master plan - they used to have black lids and the cups were not see through so I was going to put a black lid on my cup to hid the cards inside.
All that was left was the clear lids and to make it worse all of the card packs had floated to the top of my drink. It was at this point I began to panick and I went to the front to put the other 10 packs back like I had changed my mind. When my sister asked come put your soda up here so I can pay and I told her I already paid and left the store. So, not only did I steal 5-10 packs of expensive baseball cards, but I had now stolen the soda too.
I felt guilty the entire way home. I got home and dumped out my stolen soda ran the cards under the water and let them dry wrapped in towels. The best part is EVERY single pack was a dud and had no players of value in them and that would serve me right I guess. Nobody likes a thief and that day I didn't like myself.
Oh, and in case you were wondering the cards were perfectly fine. They are sealed up really tight especially these expensive ones which is why they floated to the top. No damage from the soda at all. I do not advise this though. Stealing can get you in big trouble and nothing as I learned is worth this.
I never really stole anything after that day and a year or two later I was with my cousin when he learned the hard way not to steal. To make his even dumber he was stealing and ADDRESS BOOK and had two friends at the time.
Stealing sucks and I am terrible at it since I have feelings and felt terrible for my actions.
Sorry Quiktrip.
10 year old me.
